Magical Kennebunkport, Maine
The name really is magical, isn’t it? Even if you’ve never been there, you’ve probably heard how lovely the area is, made famous by former President Bush’s summer home there at Walker’s Point. Before we get to what makes Kennebunkport so sensational, and what it offers for you, let’s point out the best and most affordable way to stay in the area…that would be RVing or tent camping (or cabin camping!) at the awesome
Red Apple Campground
in Kennebunkport. But first, Kennebunkport:
It’s easy to think the phrase “magical seaside village” is just another cliché, but in this case, it’s not. Kennebunkport really is just that special and worthwhile. Beautiful, cultural, physical, architectural, artistic, seafaring…Maine comes together at Kennebunkport.
The boating is incredible…you don’t have a boat, you say? That’s no problem as you will find it easy to get aboard sailing tours and all kinds of boating adventures in the area. All you have to do is decide which one you want. You can go on a whale watch, a lobster boat, a fishing charter, or canoe or kayak in the area. You have to visit the Ocean Avenue area and check out the Blow Holes. The folks at the
Red Apple Campground
can tell you everything…they’re actually like docents on the whole area, which is yet another reason this campground sells out often. You do need to make your reservations early…the place is very cool. However, there’s a great deal more to the area than the ocean action.
The art scene is alive and well in downtown Kennebunkport with its terrific galleries, remarkable antiques, local gifts and specialized treasures. In addition to downtown, you also must visit the galleries and shops in the Lower Village and on Dock Square. Gorgeous. You can have a wonderful time just being there, and not even spend a dime.
It’s easy to get around Kennebunkport, as you can ride bikes, walk, drive or take a trolley. You’ll want to see Cape Porpoise. It’s the quintessential Maine fishing village and offers a sensational view of the Goat Island Lighthouse.
Once you return to the
Red Apple Campground
, things stay wonderful. They are located on 15 landscaped acres, with spotless grounds and dozens of lovely flower gardens. Everyone talks about their painted birdhouses, and just how well maintained and beautiful everything is. They have 140 large grassy (some paved) sites, a heated and air-conditioned recreation hall with several flat screens and large screen cable TV's , and a new pool table calls to the competitive.
The
Red Apple
staff will give you discounted tickets to the Arundel Barn Playhouse, a summer stock theater very close by. The campground also offers some off site trips.
When you stay at the
Red Apple Campground
, you’re only 5 minutes from the Atlantic Ocean with its awesome beaches, shops, galleries, deep sea fishing, remarkable restaurants, and fresh seafood. The
Red Apple
is quite close to live theater, public and private golf courses, movie theaters, and of course, shopping. Maybe the best thing about the
Red Apple Campground
is that they serve as your personal concierge for the Kennebunkport area. They do all the work for you. They’ll make the calls, reservations, help with schedules, etc. All you do is go and have a great time.
