Good Sam RV Travel Guide & Campground Directory

Follow the Ducks!

If you live up north, follow the ducks this winter and migrate to Santee Lakes Recreation Preserve. If you already live in sunny San Diego, then bring the kids for a weekend or a week. This campground is nestled in the foothills, and is just 20 minutes from San Diego's big attractions.
Santee Lakes has plenty of options for the perfect campsite. Whether you prefer a peaceful spot by the lake, a site by our meandering creek, or close to the fun and facilities that the Clubhouse has to offer, they have the variety that welcomes all interests! Choose from 300 full hookup campsites. All have free WiFi and some even have cable TV.

If you don’t have an RV…no problem! Enjoy the camping experience by staying in one of Santee’s lakefront cabins. Their rental cabins provide a fun getaway for the entire family. Choose from ten different cabins. Seven are right on the water’s edge on the northern shore and three are actually floating on the lake! All units have full utilities including AC & heat, TV, and WiFi. They come furnished and include a restroom with shower, kitchenette, master bedroom, living room, porch and barbeque.

Santee Lakes Recreation Preserve is also a campground that is dedicated to reducing our impact on the environment. More than 4 acres of solar panels located on our property provide enough power to meet almost 50% of the entire Park and Campground needs.

If you can pull yourself away for the lake, Santee Lakes Recreation Preserve is just minutes from San Diego and all of its amazing attractions.
San Diego Zoo is one of the largest in the country, displaying some of the most exotic animals in all types of habitats. See polar bears in the Polar Rim section, then walk over a few steps to see cuddly Koala Bears, Kangaroos, and Wallabys in the Outback exhibit. And you’ll get a “lion” share of excitement in the Africa portion of the zoo.

If large man-eating animals aren’t your cup of tea, San Diego is a great sports town, and there is always a game to be seen. Head over to Petco Park and watch the rising San Diego Padres play their style of Southern California Baseball. Or take a trip to Qualcomm Stadium and experience the excitement of watching a football game live. You can hear the tackles from any seat in the stadium!

After the game walk over to historic Coronado Island, and visit all the art galleries and unique boutiques, or have a picnic right there on the sun-drenched beach. If you do visit, you have to stop by the Hotel del Coronardo. The hotel is beautiful and famous, being featured in numerous movies and television shows.
Take a lesson from the ducks, and head down to San Diego and Santee Lakes Recreation Preserve this winter and enjoy Southern California sunshine.
